Emulsioräjähteen typpijäämät louheessa

Quarrying operations cause environmental emissions into the nature. The biggest sources for nitrogen emissions from quarries are originating from the explosives used at the site. The main raw material of emulsion explosive is ammonium nitrate, which contains a significant percentage of nitrogen. If the explosives do not detonate perfectly, it results in increased nitrogen load in the nature, because the explosive residues start to dissolve from blasted rock to water. This Master’s Thesis investigated how much nitrogen residues are caused into the environment by using bulk emulsion explosives at a quarry. The literature review gives an overview of the water-in-oil emulsion explosives theory and introduces the history of the use and development of such a product. It continues with the basic theory of the nitrogen cycle. The various legislation limits for the nitrogen content in drinking and nature waters are presented, too. In addition, the literature review discusses why all the used bulk emulsion explosives do not always detonate perfectly. The most common reasons are, for instance, borehole deviation, rock jointing or poor emulsion quality. A test explosion was carried out as the empirical part of the study. A certain amount of blasted rock was taken to the dissolving tests, which were carried out by loading the blasted rock into the closed metal container. These containers were filled with water. Several water samples were taken from the containers, which were sent to a laboratory in order to figure out the total nitrogen content leached from the rock to water. Prior to the test explosion, the boreholes straightness were measured as well as the front wall was scanned and modelled. The vibration and velocity of detonation measurements were installed, too. Total nitrogen residues from bulk emulsion explosives were around 5 %. That is, about 5 % of all used Kemiitti 610 bulk emulsion explosives did not detonate perfectly, when the boreholes were average 10 meters deep without significant deviation. The amount of nitrogen in respect to total amount of blasted rock was about 0.004 g / t of rock. The result corresponds to the literature reference values from the studies of the same kind. In addition, the study determined how applicable the Forcits nitrate selective ion meter is for the field conditions. The meter gives approximately 1.5 times larger values for the nitrate concentration than the values measured by the accredited laboratory.Louhinnasta aiheutuu ympäristöön typpipäästöjä, joiden suurin yksittäinen lähde oN räjähdysaineiden käyttö. Pumpattavien emulsioräjähdysaineiden pääraaka-aine on ammoniumnitraatti, josta on typpeä huomattava prosenttiosuus. Mikäli räjähdysainetta jää räjäytyksen jälkeen louheen sekaan huolimattoman panostuksen tai epätäydellisen räjähtämisen takia, seurauksena on kasvava typpikuormitus räjähdysaineen liuetessa louheesta veteen. Tässä diplomityössä tutkittiin kuinka paljon avolouhinnassa käytettävästä pumpattavasta emulsioräjähdysaineesta aiheutuu typpipäästöjä räjäytettyyn louheeseen. Työn kirjallisuuskatsauksessa esitellään yleisesti vesi-öljyssä -emulsioräjähdysaineen teoriaa ja sen käytön ja kehityksen historiaa. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa tutustutaan myös typpikierron perusteoriaan sekä esitellään nitrifikaatio- ja denitrifikaatioprosessit. Eri lainsäädäntöjen asettamat raja-arvot juoma- ja luonnonvesien typpipitoisuuksille on myös esitelty. Lisäksi eritellään syitä miksi kaikki käytetty räjähdysaine ei aina räjähdä täydellisesti aiheuttaen typpikuormitusta ympäristöön. Yleisimpiä syitä ovat huono porauslaatu, rakoileva kallio, räjähdyksen katkeaminen porareiässä tai huono emulsioräjähdysaineen laatu. Työn kokeellisessa osuudessa suoritettiin koeräjäytys, josta otettiin räjäytettyä louhetta liuotustesteihin. Ennen räjäytystä koekentällä mitattiin muun muassa porareikien suoruus, skannattiin ja mallinnettiin kentän rintaus, otettiin vesinäytteitä panostamattomista porarei’istä sekä asennettiin tärinä- ja räjähdysnopeusmittarit. Räjäytyksen jälkeen louhetta otettiin suljettuihin metallikontteihin, jotka täytettiin vedellä. Konteista otettiin vesinäytteitä, josta määritettiin veden typpipitoisuus. Diplomityön tuloksena saatiin selville, että noin 5 % kaikesta koeräjäytyksessä käytetyn Kemiitti 610 emulsioräjähteen sisältämästä typestä jäi louheen sekaan ammoniumnitraatin muodossa. Noin 5 % käytetystä emulsioräjähteestä jäi räjähtämättä, kun porareiät olivat keskimäärin 10 metriä syviä eikä niissä ilmennyt huomattavaa kiertymistä. Typen määrä suhteessa räjäytettyyn louhemäärään oli noin 0,004 kg/t. Tuloksella on yhtäläisyyksiä kirjallisuudessa ilmoitettuihin arvoihin eri tutkimuskohteissa. Lisäksi määritettiin Forcitin nitraattiselektiivisen ionimittarin soveltuvuutta nitraatin määrän arviointiin kenttäolosuhteissa.
