Quarrying operations cause environmental emissions into the nature. The biggest sources for nitrogen emissions from quarries are originating from the explosives used at the site. The main raw material of emulsion explosive is ammonium nitrate, which contains a significant percentage of nitrogen. If the explosives do not detonate perfectly, it results in increased nitrogen load in the nature, because the explosive residues start to dissolve from blasted rock to water.
