Increasing energy costs are forcing non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) manufacturers to produce more efficient drivetrains. Developing hybridization of drivetrains is facing many challenges. One typical situation is when electromechanical power transmission challenges arise when adding an electric motor to an otherwise conventional type of drivetrain. The main engineering targets are the great differences in torque and speed characteristics for electric motors vs. combustion engines. The aim of this thesis is to find different alternatives of down gearing an electric motor and to explain the characteristics of them.
