The purpose of this thesis is to find out how lucrative demand response operations with household loads could be in Finland. This was evaluated through demand response simulations of selected household loads in spot and ancillary markets. As a result the amount of savings and carbon dioxide reductions that the demand response operations could bring was obtained. In the thesis the Nordic electricity markets in which demand responding household loads could participate in is examined. In addition to the physical electricity markets, also the balancing power markets provided by the transmission system operator, Fingrid, are researched.
