Abstract The objective of this study is to examine the foreign exchange exposure of firms in a small, open and export-oriented economy, Finland. The research analyses weekly returns during the period of 2002-2012, taking into account the recent financial turmoil, the global financial crisis from the end of 2007 and the European sovereign debt crisis from the end of 2009. I find that 20% of the Finnish firms are significantly exposed to a trade-weighted index during the whole sample period. Interestingly, more Finnish firms seem to gain when the euro appreciates, even though Finland is an export-oriented country (63% of the firms are positively exposed).
