Killer Fashion Revolution: Combining peace education with participatory art and design

Killer Fashion Revolution points out connecting nodes between peace education and participatory art and design practices both in theory and in practice. In theory this thesis gives an overview on how peace educational organizations in need of engaging campaigns can find inspiration in participatory art practices like hacktivism, craftivism and fashion hacktivism. Killer Fashion Revolution is as well an example of how participatory design research and a combination of various mediums; workshops, installation, Wiki-site and do-it-together guides, can in form of a project engage people to act and to achieve creative and elaborated outcomes. On the other hand this thesis is investigating the role of a participatory artist and designer, subsequently concluding that both need skills to facilitate participation. Killer Fashion Revolution presents alternatives for artists and designers on how to facilitate participation both face-to-face and online. Use of various peace education influenced facilitation methods are explored in practice through the cross disciplinary Killer Fashion Revolution-project. As a case study Killer Fashion Revolution -project combines experiential learning with fashion hacktivism and design research techniques. It takes form in various workshops, through a participatory media art installation and online engaging and empowering participants to hack fashion for human rights. The Killer Fashion Revolution design process and project kick-off are presented in the scope of this thesis to support the theory giving an example of how peace education can be combined with participatory art and design
