International audienceFieldwork carried out over ten years in a clay quarry at Touffréville (Calvados) resulted in the almost total excavation of a vast rural establishment occupied from the Late Iron Age to the 4th century AD. A flourishing proto-villa built with mixed materials distinguishes a phase spanning the Augustan to Claudian periods. The iron producing activity takes place exclusively during the first half of the first century AD. Situated 200 m from the built-up sectors, at the bottom of a hillside, the forge covers around 200 m2. The forge hearths define four working areas, two consisting of two successive hearths.
