His fascination with death and the decomposition of bodies ally him with the great explorers of evil and horror, like Bataille, Céline or Artaud. As with those authors, Beckett’s texts are the expression of both a collective and intimate disaster – that of the 20th century. From the sly wit of his first works, to the musical, formal beauty of his last works, Beckett invents a writing for his psychic survival.
