Mesoamerica has been the cradle of a variety of sedentary and farming cultural groups from 2500 BP. This zooarchaeological study covers 13 archaeological sites from central Mexico, with dates ranging from 200 AD to the Conquest in 1521. A systematic method of identification and osteometric quantification of bone remains was used, as well as morphometrics and the limited use of isotopic and genetic analyses. The results were compared to iconographic and ethnohistoric sources in order to clarify and contextualize the reconstitution of procurement practices and wildlife exploitation by human groups.
