Les Moulins de Moulay Idriss (Fès, Maroc). De la fouille préventive à la détection de structures hydrauliques

International audienceThe survey excavation of the site of Moulay Idriss at Aïn Cheggag (Morocco) enabled the uncovering of a vast occupation dating from the Islamic Middle Ages. The features include a watermill on a mound of travertine and a network of related hydraulic features. A field survey was also carried out beyond the excavated area using detailed mapping techniques (GPS, and other methods). The spread of the artefacts and the remarkable travertine formations revealed the high archaeological potential of the outer area that probably includes other watermills.La fouille préventive du site de Moulay Idriss, sur la commune de Aïn Cheggag (Maroc), a permis de mettre au jour une vaste occupation datant du Moyen Âge Islamique, comportant, entre autres, un moulin enchâssé dans une butte de travertin et un réseau de structures hydrauliques. En parallèle, une prospection pédestre a été réalisée autour de l’emprise de fouille. Ce relevé minutieux, au GPS et au réel, des artefacts et des formations travertineuses remarquables, a permis de caractériser une zone à très fort potentiel archéologique dans laquelle l’occupation paraît s’étendre et qui comprend d’autres possibles moulins
