International audienceGiven the problems one finds when attempting to define the goals of translation studies (practical, normative, descriptive…), its field (literature, philosophy, religion, technical jargons…) and its claims to institutional legitimacy, the épistemological basis of translation studies seems less assured than that of linguistics. This article describes the disciplinary gap between linguistics, which deals with language, and translation studies, which deal with the one very specific language act that is translation. The latter thus seems to have a place inside linguistics and, following F. Rastier, I try and find a way of using grammatical description for the specific purpose of translation studies, addressing the problems...
