International audienceDiscourse markers pose a challenge to classification: on the one hand they are a highly heterogeneous category which is difficult to classify among other parts of speech, and on the other hand, within that very category, the many occurrences of each marker are often tricky to classify. A significant number of studies on discourse markers suggest for each marker a classification of its uses. This paper intends to show that subcategorizing such items along these lines does not give credit to the richness of discourse markers in use.
