Creating and separation in 'Totality and Infinity' of Emmanuel Levinas : Towards a phenomenology and ethics of otherness

En este artículo nos proponemos dilucidar la idea fundamental que subyace a la comprensión ética de la subjetividad humana en la obra de Emmanuel Levinas: se trata de la noción de Creación, noción que nuestro autor toma del monoteísmo y somete al método fenomenológico para fundamentar una de sus teorías filosóficas más originales, esto es, la metafísica de la separación. Para tal fin analizaremos dos nociones filosóficas de las que nuestro autor se vale para justificar que la idea de creación salvaguarda la trascendencia absoluta. En primer lugar, la idea cartesiana de lo Infinito que desborda todo pensamiento. En segundo lugar, abordaremos la fórmula platónica que sitúa al Bien en un plano que trasciende toda esencia o ser, y, por lo tanto, el dominio de las ideas. En este trabajo utilizaremos el método fenomenológico y nos basaremos en las principales obras levinasianas, particularmente Totalidad e Infinito.In this article we propose to study the fundamental idea that undergrounds the ethical understanding of human subjetivity in Emmanuel Levinas’ work: we mean the notion of Creation, which our author takes from monotheism and evaluates at the light of the phenomenological method in order to base one of his most original theories, i.e., the metaphysics of separation. In order to reach our goal, we’ll analyze two philosophical notions used by our thinker to justify that the idea of Creation safeguards the absolute transcendence. In the first place, we will study Descartes’s idea of Infinity that exceeds any thought. In the second place, we will consider the platonic formula that puts the Good in a level that goes beyond the essence or the being, and, in consequent, the level of ideas. We’ll utilize the phenomenological method, and we’ll follow Levinas’ principal works, particularly Totality and InfinityFil: Ale, María Soledad.
