The Cognition, Health Belief and Actual Preventive Behavior of Flu among Different Background of Junior High School Students

[[abstract]]The purpose of this study is to explore the cognition, health belief and preventive behavior in junior high school students with different background. Based on stratified sampling, 287 JungShing junior high school students from 7th to 9th grade were selected and tested by questionnaire which was evaluated by reliability and validity. The data were analyzed by statistical methods such as t-test, one-way ANOVA and Pearson correlation. The results shown that the basic knowledge and cognition of Influenza in students are correct, and the health beliefs in students are good. In the cognition of preventive behavior, students have misunderstanding in using alcohol or diluent bleach to disinfect flu virus by preventive behaviors of school teacher. In actual preventive behaviors, students have good personal sanitary habits while sneezing and coughing. In the behavior of hands cleaning, although students are willing to wash hands; however, they can’t put into practice due to the cleaniness of sanitary supplies which were provided in public. Relevant between students in different backgroung, cognition, health belief and preventive behavior shows that scores of female students are better than male students, but there were no difference within grades and father’s educations. There has negative correlation between mothers’ education level and students’ perceived benefits of taking action and clues to action. On the other hand, students’ flu knowledge were positive correlated with perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits of taking action and clues to action. In fact, the perceived seriousness was highly correlative to perceived benefits of taking action. Finally, the scores of students’ actual preventive behavior were positive correlative with perceived susceptibility, perceived benefits of taking action, perceived seriousness and clues to action, and it was negative correlative with knowledge of flu and perceived barriers of taking action
