Atmospheric turbulence limits the quality of stellar images obtained from the ground with a telescope. Adaptive optics is a recent technique that allows to restore in real-time the flatness of the incident wavefront by using a deformable mirror, after analysis of the phase disturbance. In the astronomy domain, this analysis is limited mainly by the noise on the phase measurement because of the finite number of photons, and by the anisoplanatism effect, when the reference source for wavefront analysis is distinct from the observed object, a given angle apart.This report presents a theoretical analysis of these effects, based on a modal approach.
