The methodologies used to teach foreign languages and the materials they promote have largely varied over time. The present work specifically adresses the question of the place of literary texts as pedagogical materials in foreign languages teaching. Originally literary texts were nearly the only materials available for this teaching. Then various societal and scientific evolutions brought them to almost completely disappear from methodologies for foreign languages teaching. For some time these literary texts reappear quite widely. Our question is whether this type of pedagogical material is usable in foreign language classroom and what is the relevance of this usage.
