Spirolides are marine macrocyclic neurotoxic phycotoxines which concentrateduring algal blooms, causing public health issues. First absorbed and concentrated by seafood,they are then potentially transmitted to marine wildlife and humans through the food chain. To date, the mode of action of spirolides is not fully elucidated and the toxicity toward humans stillneed studies. Considering their low bioavailability, their synthesis proves to be crucial to have enough material for pharmacological studies.
