Under equatorial conditions, coastal sediments of intertidal mudflats form an ecological continuum, from bare mud being stabilized to soil settled by various mangrove facies. Edaphic microbial functions of terrestrial ecosystems are extensively documented; on the contrary, this is not the case with regards to sedimentary environment. This study had the main objective defining the drivers of the spatiotemporal variability of microbial functions (aerobic respiration, metabolic diversity, and enzyme activities) in coastal sediments of French Guiana.
