In the time span between the two world wars, the intense literary activity in France resulted in the flourishing of specialized magazines. Among them, the «Nouvelle Revue Française» has always been regarded as a leading modernist journal. This essay aims to present another magazine, «Commerce», smaller than NRF but just as influential, which proves to be an observation point of paramount importance for the modernist reader. «Commerce» caught and gathered the most original expressions of modernity. It mixed up genres and languages, and encouraged the dialogue between contemporary and unknown or forgotten writers from the past.
