The paper studies the dynamic response of a friction oscillator composed of a rigid block connected to a spring and free to slide over a rough surface moving according to a sinusoidal law. The analytical solution to the equations of motions, which accounts for the sequence of sticking and sliding phases, is found. The influence of the main system parameters on the solution is also investigated
