RECENT STUDIES ON NEOLITHIC SOCIETIES OF THE ABRUZZI REGION OF CENTRAL ITALY PRESENTED HERE FOCUS ON CERAMICS THAT RANGE FROM IMPRESSA TYPE POTTERY TO POTTERY PAINTED WITH RED BANDS, WHICH DATE FROM THE 6TH TO THE BEGINNING OF THE 5TH MILLENNIA BC. POTTERY OF THE EARLY NEOLITHIC DEFINES TWO ZONES. A SOUTHERN ZONE PRESENTS SIMILARITIES WITH SOTHEASTERN ITALY IN TERMS OF DECORATIVE TECHNICS SUCH AS USE OF A SEASHELL AS A STYLUS OR DECORATIVE MOTIFS (ROCKER, MICROROCKER AND SEQUENZE, AS WELL AS HUMAN FACE REPRESENTATION. THOSE COMPONENTSARE TOTALLY ABSENT IN THE NORTHERN ZONE. SET IN THEIR REGIONAL CONTEXTS, THE CHRONOLOGY AND THE LITHIC AND POTTERY ASSEMBLAGESOF THE CATIGNANO CULTURE ARE EXAMINED.
