This essay focuses on reconstruction of three epidemics of plague broken out in Mantua between the Fifteenth and Sixteenth century. Through the use of many archival sources (included many unpublished) I tried to reconstruct the demographic, economic, social and institutional impact of this disease on urban population and I analyzed in detail how the town health authorities handled the problem and if their intervention gave good results
