The bioenergetics and thermodynamics of the batch culture of Arthrospira (Spirulina) platensis was investigated at different light intensity conditions (40, 70 and 100 \u3bcmol m-2 s-1) in horizontal photobioreactor (HoP). The results indicate that the increase in biomass yield on Gibbs energy (YGX) was favored by a progressive increase in light intensity up to 100 \u3bcmol m-2 s-1, reaching a maximum cell concentration of about 8.6 g/L. An increase in light intensity favored cell growth because of photolimitation in the tested range, and the YGX fall was observed after 6.5 and 7.5 days at 40 and 70 \u3bcmol m-2 s-1, respectively, whereas no fall was detected at 108 \u3bcmol m-2 s-1 even after 8.5 days.
