We propose to consider the question of translation in relation to the specificity of what is variously called the general “science” or “theory” or “doctrine” of signs, that is, semiotics. No doubt translative work is semiotic work. No doubt translastive work is semiotic work. But here we will evidence the extent to which consideration of the translative process is unavoidable.
