This work focuses on the effective delivery of multimedia content in highly heterogeneous environments.We deal with heterogeneity at all levels of the delivery chain: devices, network infrastructures, network interfaces, operating systems. We propose an architecture which is general enough to cope with most of the identified issues and we present an interesting case study, related to the adaptive streaming of multimedia content
