To ensure the safety of the passengers, the requirements of the airworthiness authorities certification include the demonstration of a successful fan blade-off test performed on a whole engine. In order to comply with these severe criteria, manufacturers perform expensive containment spin tests during the design phase. The numerical prediction of the blade-off with the Finite Element method is then an appropriate mean to prevent the financial and technical risks and the time delay due to a mechanical failure during the tests.
