Depriving of freedom of socially maladjusted youth in the comparative perspective

The aim the following paper is a comparative analysis of solutions applicable to minors sentenced for imprisonment in various European countries. The roles and functions of isolating facilities for young people, as well as the requirements to be met by people working with such children, depend on the adopted model of juvenile and vary from country to country. This paper presents the solutions adopted by such European countries, as Poland, Ireland and Albania. In addition to the formal and organizational issues these are the attitudes and competence of staff working with young people that should be taken into account when analysing the country-specific system dealing with incarcerated young people. This issue has been indicated by such authors, as Ch. Bickel and K. Blevins. The analysis of these studies shows that the staff working with juvenile offenders is a factor playing a great role in the process of social rehabilitation, regardless of the country in which the rehabilitation process is carried out
