International audienceThis article presents an overview of the work of the French Archaeological Mission to Petra between 1999 and 2013 in the area surrounding the temple traditionally known as the Qasr al-Bint. These studies have allowed to reconstruct the development of what appears to have been the original core of the town’s occupation, located in the basin of the Wadi Musa, as well as the heart of its religious life, over nearly a millennium, from the earliest occupation in the area in the late 4th/early 3rd cent. bc until its abandonment in the 5th cent. ad.
