International audienceComing from a missionary family, the White Fathers and White Sisters operate in Upper Volta and Gold Coast during the colonial period in a complementary relationship, but also dependent. The priests’ supervision of the nuns gives to clerical authority the attributes of male power. But women missionaries find a way, in their pastoral activities, of reducing the relations of domination. Through a process of hegemonic transaction, they exert a certain power over the evangelized people.
