Le malentendu impossible ou l’histoire d’un échec. La réception de la « troisième voie » britannique dans la gauche socialiste française

Based on empirical results from a survey on the circulation of ideas between the British Labour Party and the French Socialist Party from 1994 to 2015, this article aims to show that the misunderstanding is not necessarily which affects transnational circulation of political ideas but rather what makes it possible. In support of this thesis, the article shows in a first part that the ideological conflict that emerged between New Labour and Socialist Party is not the result of a misunderstanding but rather the fact that it could not be maintain. Far from being unique to this period, maintain misunderstanding and doctrinal ambivalence are a constant in the history of French socialism. We will see in a second part that the willingness of Labour to assume the doctrinal rupture they operated, preventing misunderstanding, has affected the diffusion of ideas among their socialist counterparts. Finally, we will see that, far from being specific to the socialist political culture, maintain misunderstanding is more widely a common modalities of political discourse.À partir de résultats empiriques tirés d’une enquête sur la circulation des idées entre le Parti travailliste britannique et le Parti socialiste français de 1994 à 2015, cet article se propose de montrer que le malentendu n’est pas nécessairement ce qui nuit à la circulation transnationale des idées politiques mais au contraire ce qui la rend possible. À l’appui de cette thèse, l’article montre dans une première partie que le conflit idéologique qui a vu le jour entre New Labour et Parti socialiste n’est pas le fruit d’un malentendu mais au contraire du fait que celui-ci n’a pu être maintenu. Loin d’être propre à cette période, l’entretien du malentendu et l’ambivalence doctrinale sont une constante de l’histoire du socialisme français. Nous verrons ainsi dans une seconde partie que la volonté des travaillistes d’assumer la rupture doctrinale qu’ils ont opérée, en empêchant le malentendu, a nui par là-même à la diffusion de leurs idées chez leurs homologues socialistes. Enfin, nous verrons que, loin d’être propre à la culture politique socialiste, l’entretien du malentendu constitue plus largement l’une des modalités ordinaires du discours politique
