This thesis uses experimental methods to test Norwegian consumers’ preferences for animal welfare. First, it investigates the benefits of using such methods in consumer studies of credence goods in general, and in the case of animal welfare in particular. Consumer researchers have not used such methods extensively, so using them to examine key issues in consumer research is important. It is also important to test the potential of these methods and to see whether they provide the same results as previous studies that use other methods. Second, it examines what consumers think about animal welfare in different sales channels and for different food products. This thesis consists of four papers
