In 1951, Sidney Licht MD arranges for the publication of the first translation in modern language of De sanitate tuenda, written by Galen between 175 and 190 AD. Robert Montraville Green MD, emeritus professor of anatomy at Harvard Medical School and former obstetrician, trained in the Classics at the Boston Latin School, is assigned to the translation. Henry Ernest Sigerist, renowned history of medicine specialist at the time, writes the introduction. This volume is thought to be the first in a series of translations and publications of twenty other works by Galen, but will eventually be the only one released.
