LE TOURISTE ET LE RÉFUGIÉ: Logiques de catégorisation des patients migrants et précaires à l’hôpital public

International audienceAbstractIn support of an empirical study in a hospital unit – the unit for healthcare access – that takes care of people without medical insurance, this article aims to analyse from a sociological point of view the construction processes of the figures of the precarious and migrant patients in patients-professionals interactions.These figures are built in the frame of a social aid system and through the use of administrative statuses, in the first place enabling the identification and categoriz- ation of the patients. The reactivation of traditional oppositions between the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ poor or between the ‘good’ and the ‘bad’ migrants enables the profes- sionals, as a second step, to translate these categories and identities and to put them in the context of a moral frame.Through case studies, the central role of narrative and story-telling of patient life trajectories in the identity assignation processes will be emphasized. These widely lean on categories that are produced by the state, but also on the individual perceptions that the professionals have of the patients and on such feelings as compassion or deservingness.À l’appui d’une enquête empirique réalisée dans une structure hospitalière – la PASS (Permanence d’accès aux soins de santé) – qui prend en charge les personnes sans Sécurité sociale, cet article propose d’analyser d’un point de vue sociologique les processus de construction des figures du patient migrant et précaire dans les interac- tions entre patients et professionnels.Ces figures se construisent dans le cadre d’une structure de type assistanciel et grâce à l’utilisation de statuts administratifs qui permettent d’identifier et de catégoriser, dans un premier temps, les patients. La réactivation des oppositions traditionnelles entre le bon et le mauvais pauvre, le bon et le mauvais patient ou encore entre le bon et le mauvais migrant permettent, dans un second temps, aux professionnels de replacer ces catégories et identités dans un cadre moral.Nous verrons notamment le rôle central que joue ici la mise en récit des patients, de leur parcours de vie et de leur maladie, dans ces processus d’assignation d’identités. Ces derniers s’appuient largement sur des catégories produites par l’État, mais aussi sur la perception individuelle que se font les professionnels des patients et sur les sentiments tels que la compassion ou le mérite qui en ressortent
