As the first step in an investigation of the hormonal requirements of the pregnant rat, we [Rowlands & Williams, 1943 examined the conditions under which ovula-tion can be produced after hypophysectomy. An injection of 40 i.u. of serum gonadotrophin (pregnant mares ' serum) given 7-9 days after hypophysectomy brought the ovaries of immature or adult rats to a state where an injection of almost any gonadotrophic extract given 4-5 days later would produce ovulation. The next step has been to find out whether the eggs thus shed were fertilizable and sufficiently normal for their further development to be studied. The results of the examination are recorded below
Abstract: We investigated the fertilization and developmental ability of superovulated eggs obtained...
Use of exogenous gonadotropin to induce ovulation may be associated with reduced fertility resulting...
IN the cyclic female albino rat, a release of pituitary luteinizing hormone (LH) occurs on the after...
The development of fertilized eggs and their transport through the oviduct were studied in rats ovar...
This study examined the possible causes of infertility in immature rats following superovulation (SO...

It is generally assumed that an injection of serum gonadotrophin stimulates the secretion of gonadot...
Unilateral ovariectomy results in compensatory follicular growth and doubling of the number of ovula...
It was shown by Smith & Engle [1927] and Engle [1927] that ovulation could be induced in adult r...
To test the hypothesis of Raj & Moudgal (1970) that luteinizing hormone(LH) is the essential lut...
A delicate balance of steroid and gonadotrophic hormones is essential for intrafollicular oocyte mat...
Immature rats superovulated with pregnant mare’s serum gonadotropin (PMSG) were ovariec-tomized at v...
The purposes of this study were: (1) to develop techniques for in vitro maturation of rat oocytes wh...
