The isoprenoid quinone contents of seven strains of "Afipiafelis, " the type strains of "A. clevelandensis " and "A. broomeae, " and reference strains of three unnamed "Afipia " genospecies were determined by reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. The quinone profiles of all "Afipia " strains were essentially identical, with ubiquinone 10 as the major component. The identity of ubiquinone 10 was confirmed by mass spectrometry. In 1990, we reported that the cat scratch disease bacillus and an unidentified gram-negative organism possessed es-sentially identical cellular fatty acid profiles that were dif-ferent from those of other gram-negative bacteria (6). Recent DNA relatedness studies have shown that these two organ-isms are the first two members of a new genus, "Afipia," which contains six species: "Afipiafelis, " "A. clevelanden-sis, " "A. broomeae, " and three unnamed "Afipia " geno-species (1).
