In recent years, a significant effort has been devoted to developing low-cost materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIB). LiFePO4 is one of the most promising positive electrode materials for use in LIB. Several manufacturers are commercializing cells with LiFePO4-based chemistry. It is of interest to evaluate these cells and compare their electrochemical behavior and stability for various power source applications. Our preliminary studies suggest that selections of different materials, processing conditions, and cell configurations resulted in different performance characteristics and the capacity retention over life.
