shown that when birds are dubbed, the testes enlarge. It is common knowledge that there is a close relationship between the growth of a cock's comb and the size of the testes. Hoskins (1939) points out that when birds are caponized, the comb atro-phies. However, if male sex hormone is injected, the comb will increase in size, ac-cording to Gallagher (1930), in quantita-tive proportion to the dosage given. Buck-ner (1932, 1933) and Womack (1931) point out other factors as sunlight, ultra-violet light, and the converse, darkness, have influence on comb response to such a stimulant as testosterone. It is a generally accepted fact that tes-tosterone is produced by the interstitial cells of the testes. However, Breneman (1935) notes that there is a direct rela-tionship between the size of the comb and the development of the seminiferous tu-bules and not the interstitial tissue. It is conceivable that factors causing changes in the amount of interstitial cells or changes in the development of the tubules would influence the hormone output. With these factors in mind, it was de-cided to confirm, if possible, the reported enlargement of the testes of cocks follow-ing dubbing. This involved the removal of the combs and wattles. If this was con-firmed, the study was to be extended t
