issue I must comment on the article by Milligan et al regarding massive transfusion in trauma.1 The authors state that ‘standardizing blood transfusion in major trauma to include auto-matic delivery of appropriate blood products at particular points in resuscitation may be of benefit’. They base this on their survey of 32 emergency medicine doctors to whom they asked questions apparently relating to the definition of massive transfusion (MT), ‘target ’ laboratory values and blood product components.
