The kinetics of the adsorption of Congo red onto natural clay has been studied in an agitation batch adsorber. The Furusawa model has been used to determine the external transfer coefficient for the system and the effect of several experimental variables have been investigated: these include agitation, initial dye concentration, clay mass and clay particle size. The mass transfer coefficient has been correlated with the system variable by the following equation: kf = A(variable)
