Previous research has indicated a role for both the neuronal (nNOS) and endothelial (eNOS) nitric oxide isoforms in memory formation. In addition, two distinct periods of activity of nitric oxide activity, dissociated by hemispheric localization, are implicated following passive avoidance training in the chick.
