ABSTRACT A novel method for the synthesis of copoly(ester-thioester)s of high t~iolecular weight has been developed. These polymers were prepared readily by direct polycondensation of 4,4’-(tereplitlialoyIdithio) diacetic acid I, 3,3’(isop~ithaloyldit~iio) diacetic acid 11, or 1,8 (sebacoyldithio) diacetic acid 111, with 2,6-bis(p-Ia~dro~be1~1-idene) cyclohexano)re IV, and 2,6-divairillylide~iecyclohexa,tone V, using a coiideiising agenr consisting of a pyridine-tliionyl cliloride co,iiplex. The resulting polyniers were characterked by elemental and spectral analyses, solubility, viscoitietry, differential scanning caloriiiietry and thennogravinietric analyses.
