The KES-F system has been used to study the "handle " of a range of water repellent fabrics. Variations in the behaviour of the dry and wet mechanical proper-ties of water repellent fabrics was observed. The effect of a water repellent/softener on the handle of a cotton fabric was examined and the effectiveness of the "permanent softener " to laundering evaluated.
