_The objective of the study was the deveiopment and analysis of an instrument which assesses student attitudes toward school, work, self, and others. This objective 115 item instrument was refined into an 80 item Student Attitude Survey which has documented qualities related to administration, processing, reliability, ard validity. Tie revised instrument demonstrated a _igh degree of internal consistency. The average item to total score correlations for the major scales were.48,.53,.57, and.50. The split-half reliability coefficients were.80,.90,-.88, and.79. Two indices of validity were employed: the agreement of staff and student ratings and scale sensitivity to experimental treatment effects. The first index was constrained by a relatively low level of interrater reliability. The second index did provide consistent and supportive results.
