Three samples each of wheat, barley and oats, together with a sample of rye were assayed for metabolizable energy (M.E.) content using the method described by Sib-bald and Slinger (1963). Each grain was fed at three levels of dietary inclusion (20, 40 and 60%) to two replicated pens of 20, male White Leghorn chicks for a period of two weeks (2 to 4 weeks of age). The basal diet was found to contain 29.9 % of protein. Weight change and feed consumption data were recorded. The compositions of the grains are de-scribed in Table 1.
