The end of a flower's attraction to pollinators may be due to a range of visible cues such as permanent flower closure, a colour change, and withering or abscission of the petals. Floral attraction may be reduced by pollination. Pollination-induced conclusion of floral attraction is often due to a colour change or to flower closure. This may or may not be followed by a reduction in floral longevity, defined as the time to petal withering, wilting or shattering. In a few species floral longevity is increased following pollination-induced flower closure or a pollination-induced change in colour.
