The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) Board of Directors estab-lished the Practice Management Task Force

(PMTF) to evaluate the state of nutrition support practice and the utility of nutrition support teams (NSTs) in clini-cal practice. The work of the PMTF focused on develop-ment of a survey to assess the interdisciplinary scope of practice related to nutrition support therapy, successful team models, and reimbursement. A separate publication on reimbursement will be forthcoming. Upon analysis of results from an A.S.P.E.N. survey conducted in 2008 and review of the literature on this subject, the PMTF devel-oped strategic recommendations for the establishment, function, and management of an NST in a variety of dif-ferent “team ” models and health care settings. The NST survey consisted of 70 questions and was sent out electronically in the fall of 2008 to the entire A.S.P.E.N. database. In total, 698 respondents provided partial data, and 200 surveys were completed that included answers to the team section. Demographics The primary discipline of the survey respondents was identified as 73.9 % dietitian, 15.2 % pharmacist, 7.2% nurse, and 3.7 % physician. This is fairly representative of the A.S.P.E.N. membership in 2008, which was 64.1% dietitians, 13.7 % pharmacists, 14.2 % physicians, an
