United States today has unique and special needs. If Vietnamese young-sters are to succeed in school, princi-pals must learn to meet these needs. For the last 15 years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of Southeast Asians in the United States. The highest percentage consists of Vietnamese (about 46.2 per-cent), who settled on the West Coast, especially in California. Contrary to the popular stereotype of the &dquo;model minority&dquo; used for Asian youth, there have been serious problems with today’s Vietnamese students.
