Older adults are a large but very inactive population group. Physical activity, especially walking, has many important health benefits for older adults. This review describes the relationship between walking and health and reviews studies investigating the rela-tionship between the built environment, walking, and health in older adults. Important features of community design for older adults are identified and suggestion for impacting walking behavior is made
