Majority of the studies concerning the interactions between Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and travel behaviour undertaken in the last 30 years have focused on determining the net effect of ICT use on travel demand (trip substitution versus generation). More recent studies have started investigating various modifications in travel arising from the growing ICT use, such as modal shift, departure timing, or productive use of travel time. Our interest in the latter has been motivated by increasing focus on providing workable on-borad conditions, e.g. through provision of tables or WiFi coverage, as well as growing discussion on the resulting changes to valuation of travel time savings and hence transport investment appraisal methodologies. In our paper we modify the utility-maximising time-specific household production framework to obtain a combined model of in-travel activity choice and duration, and productivity assessment. We estimate our model using 2009 data from the United Kingdom using combination of binomial Weibull, Weibull hazard, ordered (negative log-log) and log-linear regressions specifications.
