In addition, death must have occurred within 1 hour after the onset of symptoms. SCD may be due to ventricular tachycardia (VT)/ventricular fibrillation (VF), asystole, or nonarrhythmic causes.1 For the purpose of this scientific statement on noninvasive risk stratification for primary prevention of SCD, SCD will specifically refer to death due to reversible ventricular tachyarrhythmias, because this is the focus of the risk stratification techniques to be discussed.
