The nanocrystalline SrAl2O4: Eu 2+, Dy3+ phosphor powders have been synthesized by combustion process. The as-obtained phosphor is characterized by means of X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and Photoluminescence (PL) techniques. The luminescent properties of SrAl2O4: Eu 2+, Dy3+ phosphor are studied by emission and excitation spectra. After irradiated with ultraviolet (UV) light, the phosphors emitted green long lasting phosphorescence with an excitation peak at 324 nm and emission peak at 515 nm ascribed to the characteristic 5d–4f transition of Eu2+
